The “Undecided” Brand: Why Your Feed Feels Messy (And Why That’s a Good Thing)

Updated: Apr 4

Have you ever scrolled back through your own Instagram grid or looked at your LinkedIn profile and felt a little… disconnected?

Maybe one photo is bright and airy, the next is moody and dark, and the one after that is a graphic you made in a caffeinated rush that doesn’t quite fit either vibe. When we look at our own work with such a close lens, it’s easy to feel like we’re failing at the "consistency" game.

But first, take a deep breath. It’s okay. There is a huge misconception in the creative world that if your brand isn’t perfectly curated and "locked in" from Day 1, you’re inconsistent. But I want to offer you a different perspective. You’re not inconsistent. You’re just undecided. And honestly? Undecided is just another word for growing.

The Beauty of the "Undecided" Phase

Every brand starts a little messy. You test different fonts. You move a terracotta planter from one corner to the other just to see if the light hits it better. You swap out colors.

In branding, this is the phase where you are finding your voice. You’re testing visuals and seeing what sticks. This isn't a failure of your business; it’s

a necessary part of the process. You have to know what doesn't feel like "you" before you can find what does.

Why Decision Beats Perfection

The "undecided" look only becomes a hurdle when you’re ready for people to truly recognize you at a glance.

Think about your favorite creators. You probably recognize their posts before you even see their handle. Why? It’s usually not because they have a million-dollar production team. It’s because they made a few simple, intentional decisions:

They chose their lighting: They stick to a specific "mood" across their photos.

They chose their tones: They lean into a specific color story or overall feel.

They stayed intentional: Every post feels like it belongs in the same "room" as the last one, making the feed look calm instead of chaotic.

When you make these decisions, your content stops feeling like a series of random events and starts feeling like a cohesive home for your ideas.

I’m Giving You Permission to Evolve

I’ll be the first to admit: even as a designer, it’s easy to feel the pressure to stay "static." We think once we pick a logo and a color palette, we’re stuck with them forever.

But the truth is, I’m currently in the middle of a brand refresh myself. If you’ve looked at my site lately, you’ve seen the shift. I’ve moved from my previous "Boughs and Blossoms" aesthetic—which was full of soft, floral-heavy visuals—to a much more intentional, bold, and high-contrast black logo.

Why? Because I evolved. Trends shift, my tastes have matured, and my business has grown into a new season. What felt like "me" a year ago doesn’t quite capture the heart of what Brand Garden Studio is building today.

And I am giving you full permission to do the same.

Your brand is a living thing. If your current visuals feel like a coat that’s two sizes too small, it is okay to change. Refreshing your brand isn't about fixing something that’s broken; it’s about honoring how far you’ve come. It’s about making sure your "visual garden" has enough room for the person you’ve become today.

How to Start Cultivating Your Own Clarity

If you’re feeling like your brand is stuck in that "undecided" phase, don't feel like you have to delete everything and start over. Just start where you are.

Audit with Kindness: Look at your last 9 posts. Which one makes you feel the most "at home"?

Pick One Anchor: Maybe it's a specific lighting style, a tone, or a layout. Commit to that one thing for your next few posts.

Allow for Evolution: Don't be afraid to change. I’m right there in the trenches with you, swapping out some of my old "seedlings" for something that feels a little more like now.

Branding isn't about rules or being "perfect." It’s about being intentional so that your dream clients can find you, recognize you, and trust you.

We’re evolving together, and I can’t wait to show you what’s blooming next.
